Apple has big changes planned for the iPhone 17 lineup, headlined by the addition of the all-new iPhone 17 Air. Meanwhile, a new report today corroborates a change we can expect for the cheapest iPhone 17 model: a slightly larger screen.
With the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max last year, Apple slightly increased the screen sizes from 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively. The base model iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, however, retained the smaller sizes.
This year, the iPhone “Plus” model is being replaced by the iPhone 17 Air. The standard iPhone 17, however, will remain in the lineup.
According to a new subscriber post from reliable analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 17 will feature the same size screen as the iPhone 17 Pro, going from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches (well, 6.27 inches to be exact).
This change has now been reported multiple times by multiple different sources, so it seems like a safe bet to assume it’s true. More notable than the increase in screen size, however, is that the base model iPhone 17 will also finally make the jump to a 120Hz refresh rate display. Historically, Apple has limited its ProMotion display technology to the Pro model iPhones. The iPhone 17 will also reportedly add always-on display support as well.
The combination of the larger display and ProMotion tech should make the base model iPhone 17 significantly more appealing to a lot of people.
